WOW.....a neat little script!

I created it and ran it on my Windows XP-Pro machine and it was just 77 sec's.

Not too bad.....now to try it on Vista, if I can get that #$%@&*@ Dell to boot up.
It's been having a tissy fit all day.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed.

I really appreciate you guys!

Shadow

PS: Like so many other Dell XPS400 users, worldwide, I've had to declare the mobo "DEAD". There are many reports from other Dell users that they are experiencing the same symptoms as I have. I'm going to scrap it out, removing any usable parts and trash the case, mobo and PSU.

Mr Scrooge,

You may find some resolution to that problem of "verifying DMA Pool Data" Here: Computer stops at verifying dmi pool data....

I wish I had read that site when I was having that problem on an older PC.:geek:

Good Luck to ya!

You think yours are bad, 143 secs with 46 processes I think ATI CCC and all its services have a big part to play in this. Time for some more tweaking.

Does this code work on XP?

Hi Inferno,

Yeah it works on XP ;)

Its only good for comparing XP to XP or Vista to Vista because of the major Kernel architecture changes though...

I suggest trying it on Windows 98 too, I bet it has an even faster boottime than XP or Vista ;)

Too bad dmex, but neither the script nor the .exe seem to work in Win 98... at least not in MS Virtual PC 2007.

The script runs and shows the dialog box and when clicked on OK nothing happens.

The exe on the other hand gives these two error messages:

error1xw7.jpg

and this one [The Application error window with the OK button; not the background one] after clicking close:

error2gp8.jpg

I think it need MS .NET framework, right? Wonder if its available for Win98!

Yeeeeeesss!
Can you determine whether the greatest lag is in the shutdown or startup part of the test?
Shutdowns can be made quicker with a registry tweak and Quick Shutdown icon on your desktop. But boot times can take a bit more work. That requires that you decrease the number of things loading, starting and running at boot.

Yup............300 is definitely a bit long.:o
