Thanks to Flavius.

warning   Warning
Requirements:

Here's How:

Warning:~ Do not install Product key!

1. Install WAIK on OS
2. Install Vista RTM to a secondary partition. (Namely D: with nothing on that drive as all will be deleted)
3. During the installation, once in the Out of Box Experience (OOBE) after set-up starts, press Ctrl+Shift+F3. (The computer will restart and enter Audit mode!)
4. A Sysprep window will pop up. Do not close this Sysprep window.
5. Then find the Vista SP1 installer and then ‘Run’ installer. (The standalone service pack 1 installer from Microsoft which you will have previously downloaded)
6. Run the Vista SP1 Cleanup Tool.
7. Run the SP2 installer.
8. Run the Vista SP2 Cleanup Tool.
9. Once installation has completed Sysprep window will open. Now select OOBE, Generalize, and to Shut Down the system.
10. ‘Boot’ the system into your main OS installed. DO NOT boot back into the Vista RTM you just set-up.
11. Now in the ‘start-up’ box look for the WAIK start-up file, open this up and then select WAIK 'command prompt’ and right click on Run as Administrator.
12. Type in the following imagex command below and press enter.

imagex /compress maximum /flags "Ultimate" /capture d: c:\install.wim "Ultimate"
Note   Note
You may need to replace "HomePremium" after the /flags switch with whatever edition of Vista you need installed!
Note   Note

Where d: is the drive that you have installed Vista SP2 on, and c:\install.wim is the location to store the new version of install.wim follow the steps below:~
Now:~
 1. Start UltraISO, and select your DVD drive with your Vista DVD loaded under UltraISO's local header. Next select Tools > Make CD/DVD Image
 2. UltraISO will capture & save your DVD image under \Users\{user ID}\Documents\My ISO Files\LRMCxFRE_EN_DVD.iso (LRMCxFRE_EN_DVD is the volume label of my Vista DVD, your label may be different). Don't change any of the default settings. When UltraISO has saved the image, it will ask you if you want to open it, select yes.
 3. From the opened image, select the /sources folder and browse for the install.wim file. Right-click this file and select delete.
 4. Next copy the new install.wim you created in step 11 (should be on d: or whatever drive you have put it on) above into the /sources folder. then select and drag & drop install.wim to the /sources folder.
 5. From UltraISO's menu select File >: Save
 6. Once the ISO has been saved, make sure that the install.wim file from the /sources folder is the updated install.wim (look at the date).
 7. Now select Tools > Burn CD/DVD Image
 8. When ready, you'll have your Vista install DVD with SP2 included.

It takes about 180 mins.
Thanks to Flavius again...

Hello Trax1963,

I can't follow your tutorial because right at the beginning on points 2 and 3, when I press Ctrl+Shift+F3 nothing happens. I repeated a couple of times and waited very long, but nothing. Is there anything I can be missing ot a way to overcome this, please?

This keyboard issue, clear keyboard,if this is keyboard on USB make sure USB Legacy Support is enabled in BIOS PC Accessories - Issues when USB Legacy Support is Disabled
Have you tried both left and right CTRL+SHIFT?
or if still nothing help you have to change keyboard

Flavius,

Thanks for the answer. This is a normal PS2 little purple round plug, not USB. It is working OK in any other way. I can't test the Ctrl+Shift+F3 set in Windows because I have no use, but I can test all other keys. I mean, testing separately in normal use (on Windows), Ctrl works with other keys, so does the Shift and the Pause (this one while starting the computer), as for the F3 is the key I use more often every day on searching.

Can't this be from something else that I am missing or doing wrong, please?

All three bottons CTRL+SHIFT+F3 you have to press in the same moment -I can't explain why it not working by you.I suggest change keyboard if still no success.

Pretty good tutorial!
However, i've a little problem with the audit mode. Always when i try to enter it, a error-message pops up "Failed to complete installation. Please restart the installation".
Can anybody help me with my SP1 + SP2 Vista DVD?

Btw, i have another question... will vLite be able to edit this Sp1 + Sp2 Vista Image?

Thanks! :)

Someone should rewrite this tutorial. It is extremely loosely written, hardly understandable on some passages. Some pictures do not show the right fields or else don’t seem to agree with the corresponding text. This tutorial does not fall on the same excellent level of other tutorials on these forums, maybe the best ever on Windows.

The author is probably highly skilled and able, but he should learn how to write when addressing non-expert people, some of them not even understanding English properly. Some points are impossible to understand for anyone in both situations.

actualy it was just posted on the vlite forums that there indeed is tool to do it [MUST READ] Slipstreaming SP2 into Windows Vista w/ SP1 - MSFN Forums

There is no single tool, yet. That thread refers to reverse integration which can be very messy.

I have a new system which came with a Vista Ultimate SP1 OEM disk and I would like to slipstream SP2 into it for future use.

Will have to read this thread throroughly I can see!

actually if you would have read the whole thread there is a tool that is in testing and does work [MUST READ] Slipstreaming SP2 into Windows Vista w/ SP1 - MSFN Forums

I wasn't trying to shoot you down, I meant a final published tool. All I read was that something was in testing, plus one needed .net 4 beta...which I'm not willing to do. So I'll try to follow the guidelines in the tute here.

Question - how important is it to use the SP2 cleanup tool? Basically I'm curious as to why one has to use it, if one has to.

Plus can one use either ImgBurn or Nero instead of UltraISO?

the cleanup tool is for people that do a upgrade instead of clean install, as to the other question about i don't think it should make a difference. i use nero 8 to burn my iso's

the bad part of that tool is that the person making it has stopped for some reason and has not made update for couple of weeks. so any bugs are not addressed yet

That's why I'm avoiding it for now.

you need to use the windows 7 waik with that tool

?? Windows 7 AIK? Now you've lost me altogether. I'm using standalone SP2 and have a Vista SP1 disk....which AIK is best, or does it really matter?

The tutorial could be perhaps clarified for those who already have the Vista SP1 disk.
