User and Admin account big troubles !

Out of interest, did you really follow all of those steps (bar 9) because I am not seeing STEP TWO in your registry hives (ie I see a value of 1 for EnableLUA)

WARNING! This script has been created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!

I am going to reset some of your registry hive permissions. This is normally dangerous on Vista, and is only really designed for XP, but we can sort that out later, and your machine is a special case!

Install subinacl on ANOTHER computer: Download details: SubInACL (SubInACL.exe)

Go to C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\

NOTE: May be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\

and copy subinacl.exe to a memory stick.

Download the batch file attached onto your memory stick also. Call it perm.bat. Modify it, and change YOURUSERNAME to your actual user name, on the first two.

Here are the contents:

Code:
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=restricted=r /grant=YOURUSERNAME=f /setowner=administrators > subinacl_output.txt
subinacl /keyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=restricted=r /grant=YOURUSERNAME=f /setowner=administrators >> subinacl_output.txt

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /grant=everyone=r /grant=restricted=r /setowner=administrators >> subinacl_output.txt
subinacl /keyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /grant=everyone=r /grant=restricted=r /setowner=administrators >> subinacl_output.txt

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /setowner=administrators >> subinacl_output.txt
subinacl /keyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /setowner=administrators >> subinacl_output.txt

subinacl /subdirectories %programfiles%\ /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=e >> subinacl_output.txt

subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\ /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=e >> subinacl_output.txt
Put the memory stick in the "functioning interestingly" computer.

Run cmd.exe. Navigate to the memory stick (try a few different cd F:\ letters) until you find one that works, and then try perm.bat.

Thanks!

Richard

I follow all the steps except 9. I was also surprise when checking this value of 1 for EnableLUA.

The only doubt I have is about step 1, about net users administrator. I didn't received any successfully response. As my laptop is in french, and I made a search in google.fr, administrator become administrateur.

I don't have another computer to try, sorry.

I don't really understand why to install subinacl.exe and run perm.bat on another computer. What's the meaning ? :sarc:

I already installed subinacl.exe to solve the permission on my registry and deal with regsvr32 to register some dll and ocx.

After installing Subinacl, Vista restarted and I noticed that I had no more sound, Network tab with low memory (message appearing) when launching and UAC didn't work anymore. I was clicking on enable or disable UAC, nothing happened.

Maybe now, it's recommend to apply Subinacl with all the contends.

Can you give me a quick run down of what is happening at your end. Installing subinacl.exe does not cause a problem. It was only meant to extract the file, for use on the other computer. Do you have any System Restore points?

Installing subinacl I hadn't problem at all. The problems cames when I ran the bat file.

Ps: I'm talking about 4 days ago, when I installed subinacl and the .bat file.

I don't have any System Restore point. I disabled this function a long time ago.

This was the content of my bat file on that time:

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f

Do you think that the fact that I can enter to my Bios with F2 key is related to the permissions modification during the last 9 steps ? In this case, I think that your idea with subinacl and perm bat need to be considered again as the scenario is different than the first time I ran it.

Also could you please, tell me the exact name I had to write on the perm.bat as I have a user account named Transparence and an admin account Fleur de vie to unlock permissions. I remind you that I have a new admin account named Secours, but I think that this one, I don't need to included in the perm.bat, don't you think so ?

I'd like you help me to enable again the restore point as I can't, before.

Thanks in advance !

Maybe you find others ways to fix this issue... :D

The BIOS is completely separate. It is nothing to do with Windows. Any issues with the BIOS simply cannot be caused by the registry. Either something else is going wrong, something odd is happening, or you are using the wrong sort of keyboard. Is this a Laptop or a Desktop? You put the name of the account that you run it from in there. If you run it from Transparence, you put the name Transparence in. If you run it from Fleur de vie, you put Fleur de vie in.

Whatever account you run it from :)

It's a laptop, Amilo Pro V3505. Bios troubles cames with the nine steps I followed. No problems before.

Sorry, but I don't understand 'from in there' .

You mean to execute the perm bat, I had to run one perm.bat for and from my user account and another one for and from my admin account. In safe mode ? Transparence user account I can't access to run perm.bat. Let me know thanks.

I solved the trouble I had with my user account editing a few permissions of my registry. I compared with those from a friend's laptop running on Vista 32bits. I need for now to solve the deconnection I get when entering into my Admin account. I have the "Welcome" message and the, I suddenly disconnected. Also, to fix my bios access. After that, we will see with the registering of jscript and vbscript.dll Anyway, I'd like to check the lusrmgr.msc also.

I mean an automatic logoff. I enter my password on my admin account. I saw the 'Welcome' message (I hear it's loading but I've always the 'Welcome' message), then after a long moment, I have the next message 'Close session' . Keyboard is the one attached to my laptop: AMilo Pro v 3505. Also when I boot up I saw a little black screen (1-2 sec) before the users and admin account appears in order to log in. I successfully registered vbscript.dll on yesterday; but I can't do it the same with jscript.dll. Always the same error "dllregisterserver failed with error code 0x80004005 " 0x80004005 is related to an access denied.

Great news ! I can enter into my old admin account for now.

To resume, these are the issues I need to fix for now:

1. Enter BIOS with F2

2. Little Black screen during a few second when switching from one admin account to another account (either admin or user)or entering into a user or admin account.

Example: If I start my laptop and I log in to my Admin account, I notice a little black screen during a few seconds 5 - 10 sec (sometimes, more) and from my Admin account if I wanted to go to my User account after log in, I have a black screen (during 2-3sec) before the dekstop's display.

3. UAC seems to be locked. I unchecked the UAC box in the Control Panel but when rebooting it comes again with the UAC enabled. It seems that it doesn't work anymore.

4. run Windows Media Player but first, registering jscript.dll

Niemiro, I fixed the registering jscript dll and I can run again Windows Media Player. To resume, these are the issues I need to fix for now:

1. Enter BIOS with F2

2. Little Black screen during a few second when switching from one admin account to another account (either admin or user)or entering into a user or admin account. 3. UAC seems to be locked. I unchecked the UAC box in the Control Panel but when rebooting it comes again with the UAC enabled. It seems that it doesn't work anymore. I tried on cmd : HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f When I reboot again my computer, it comes with UAC box checked on the Control Panel. I'd like to disabled and enabled from the Control panel choosing to check or uncheck UAC.

Waiting for your help ... ;)

So sorry I was not of more help! So much to catch up on, and busy during the middle of the day. I have seen UAC issues a bit like this. So far, it has always been missing in the registry. I just want to see what is in that key. Can you please run the following from a Command Prompt, and copy and paste LUA.txt from your Desktop?

reg.exe QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System > %UserProfile%\Desktop\LUA.txt

Hmmm. I am still really curious about the BIOS issue. Very few things can actually affect the BIOS. So you cannot enter the BIOS?

Yes, I tried with F2 and F12 and nothing, it boots automatically. I tried removing my 2 RAM sticks and restart, replace 2 RAM sticks in and reboot, and always the same boot. I tried also with pressing the button POWER during 1 minute(before, I removed battery and unplugged the power) and nothing.
