Windows 7 public beta is available now

As Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer promised at CES 2009 during his preshow keynote, the Windows 7 beta is now available to the public for download. It is only available to the first 2.5 million people who download it, so make sure to get your hands on it as soon as you can! The beta is available in English (32-bit and 64-bit), German (32-bit and 64-bit), Japanese (32-bit and 64-bit), Arabic (32-bit and 64-bit), and Hindi (32-bit). Once you have the .iso image downloaded, I recommend you use IMGBurn to burn it to a DVD. The beta supports clean installs and Windows Vista SP1 to Windows 7 upgrades. You can only install the Ultimate edition. You should receive a beta key by e-mail sometime after you download the build. Microsoft gives the following minimum hardware recommendations for the Windows 7 Beta (and notes that they can change before the final):

• Processor: 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
• Memory: 1 GB of system memory
• Hard drive: 16 GB of available disk space
• Video card: Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128MB memory (in order to enable Aero theme)
• Drive: DVD-R/W drive

Yeah I tried to download it but a message was posted saying its in the process of adding more servers and to wait for the post Beta. One question...is it possible to set windows 7 as a dual boot with vista?

I'm testing Win 7 Beta and I have very mixed emotions about it.

Yes, you can install it over Vista, like, as an upgrade or install it to a new drive. It gives you those options.
I went the upgrade route first, but there was so much interference with the old Vista files that I reinstalled it as a NEW Install.

It connected right up to my router and went on the internet with no problems.
My biggest disappointment came when I wanted to set up my email.
There is NO working email program. I even downloaded Windows Mail for Win 7 from M$, but it didn't work.:sa:
Also, it would not install my Epson AIO which worked just fine in Vista. Oh well..... I did say "Testing".
Like Vista, it will Never be my main OS. Sorry M$!

Why not install VirtualBox 2.1 (which runs x64 guest OS installs regardless of the HOST) and try it out that way.

I'm downloading it right now and will do the same. You don't even have to burn the DVD. Just mount it from your desktop OS.

got the 32bit download ok last night and 64 bit tried 3X but each time it dies at some point during the download.

created a partition on my vista32 box to try win7 later today tho

If your using Firefox it will not continue you have to use IE7 cause Firefox it will just refresh the page.

Yes, same here with the download button...M$ is for sure against Firefox
Thanks God that the beta was leaked on the torrent sites and all I needed was the registration key :-D

MS servers down? What's new?

I got mine from a friend that downloaded it from Katz.
It came with the patch for the Activation.

I've had no problem installing it at all, it's just too much like a crippled Vista to suit me.
And, it ticks me off that it's not a full version.
No Email.....really bites!

In this day and age, what good is an OS without an email client?????????:sa:

Might as well be running DOS. It's a lot faster!
