Reinstalling Vista w/o using recovery disks?

So I need to do that to boot from the USB then? Maybe it will be easier to just burn a DVD then.

LOL Im there, too. Its affiliated with Vista.
Personally, I like the DVD, been there and done that; never used the usb.

I thought that was for installing from a USB flash drive? I'm going to use DVDs

If using DVD, I think this is the way to start. If you run into problems the tutorial that you presented should work.

The main thing is that its a clean install (format) and you have a product key number.

Not had a proper chance to look at this yet. Trying to make the best of the nice weather before the storm. Anyway I went into setup mode by pressing F2 and it's asking for a password!!! A password? Why do I need a password? I tried the admin account password but it didn't work.

Anyone know where I can find this password or a way to circumvent it? Hope this doesn't mean I have to use the recovery disks instead now...

Not booting from the disk automatically. I have boot.wim install.wim and X14-63452. Should I double click on boot.wim or install.wim from explorer then.

I getting hounded by updates while I do this :-(

Boot and install didn't work. Tried the main program which asked for admin password, stopped there though and didn't go any further.

The request for password is coming from your computer. Try to put nothing in and continue.

Already tried that, it just says password is invalid.

If you have a password for you modem, try that too.

It seems to want an 8 character password though. No idea about a modem password???
