Slow when shutting down

Yes, Tom, thank you ! :)

These are great news ! I told you that I needed to test that this shutdown issue was fixed during 2 days more. Time is over, and the shutdown has been fixed.

By the way, I have others troubles more related to boot and start Vista :

1. I have also a long time boot that I need to fix.

2. When entering into my User account, the message 'Welcome' last too long time, 33sec and even longer. From time to time, the screen appearing black for 5 to 10 sec before the dekstop will appear.

Maybe I will open a new thread ?

Hello Ashanta,

Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been really busy recently preparing for my university interview.

Try using this reboot timer and let me know what it says:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/151819-boot-up-time.html

You may want to give it a few runs to find an average if it's an irregular process.

So it's gone from 231s to 236s to 226s and then to 87s? Sounds strange.

To be honest I doubt you'll get anything much faster than that with your computer specs. Your RAM is the minimum requirement for Vista. If it's really annoying you, then you could look into ReadyBoost (using USB devices as RAM basically):

Using memory in your storage device to speed up your computer

Also, here's a few tips you could do:

I can tell you now that the average boot time is aroung 177sec.

I can't remember if I tell you that my slow computer is related to a KSOD (Black Screen) I experienced in different scenarios :

1. KSOD when booting (windows logon appeared in my case)
2. KSOD when logging into my account (before appearing the dekstop)
3. KSOD when closing my account
4. KSOD when I change into another account, ie, from user account to admin account (KSOD during more than 15sec)

I hear that maybe something is corrupt or wrong with Explorer.exe, Taskmgr.exe and Winlogon.exe

Tom

I don't consider 1 gb to be the minumim requirements. It really should be 2 gb even if M$ only says one. I've never put stock in their minimum or even recommended amounts. Keep in mind that although Vista requires basically the same amount of ram as it did when it came out the programs people use on their computers have changed and usually those changes require more resources (especially ram) many of them also have smaller programs or services that they like to run all the time-even when the program isn't in use. Those cumulatively bog down windows and fill up your ram. In addition I notice on my desktop that eventually Vista starts to consume more and more ram. For example it is using up about 800-900 mb upon boot up (I have lots of stuff turned off) but after several days it'll be up to 1300 and not go down. You'll benefit immensely from more ram.
