i recently had a hard drive crash while running windows 7 on my accer 5517 laptop. since then i have tried to order a disc, but realized my product code is unreadable.

now, my problem is i have a hard drive with windows vista home basic 32 bit that boots up fine and runs somewhat smoothly. but i cant install my hardware or manage anything on my system.

I cant open device manager through any method ive tried thus far. i also cant open any other files in the system32 folder that ive tried s far.

i also cant open setup.exe files or any network settings

(the window i open the files from never loads and only minimizes when hitting the desktop shortcut)

but i can open fire fox, IE, solitaire, pictures, and other misc programs.

please any help or tips would be appreciated also i dont not have a disc only the system on the HD witch is from another accer laptop (5515 series)

Hello, i am getting lost here, You had issues with a 5517 laptop, and took a hard drive from a 5515 and installed it and it does not work ? The 5515 has Vista HB ? and it does not fully function ? Is that what is happening ?

everything works fine in safe mode i even managed to run it with networking there.

it boots up fine and runs good unless u try to change any of the settings (install new software, change power plan, manage hardware, things along that line)

in safe mode i can do everything but open a few driver installation packages that will not run in safe mode.

but, yes. ur post is correct another laptop HD with another OS. It had a busted screen and a bad graphics card.

You may need to run it more than once. maybe up to 3 times to see maximum results.

have had no luck so far still acts the same, and give the same results.... log is extra long and im not sure how to interpret the data.
at this point its frustrating since im actually using the computer to post this in safe mode... but it wont work when running normal.

so im thinking it must be something easy that im over looking or maybe it is the registry errors. on further repairing registries i am lost. :/

A thought occurs to me - what is the response when you open a Command Prompt window, and enter

SC QUERYEX CRYPTSVC

post the result - it may give us a clue.

No - to start a service you must open an Admin Command Prompt window - right-click on the CP shortcut, and select Run As Administrator -
the prompt will state
C:\Windows\System32
and the window title will be Administrator:Command Prompt
Please do the command again in Normal Mode, in an Administrator Command Prompt window.

when doing so it has froze my start menu(as in it you can expand it and collapse it but it is unresponsive in every other way) this happens to any screen when i attempt to access any settings in normal start-up.

OK - this sounds as if we've hit the core problem then.
boot to Safe Mode, and start the Clean Boot methods in my earlier response - see if the system responds properly back in Normal Mode.

acts exactly the same in clean boot under normal start-up, just loads allot faster which is expected.
